Frank Harris, a clinical psychologist, is in an initial session with a lawyer , Marty, who wants to deal with his girlfriend's odd behavior. She is a monster on the bench, but a sweet and beautiful person when they're alone. Frank, his grilfriend,Detective Sissy Frabel, Sissy's ex-partner and now chief of detectives, Ben Lucero and a beautiful lawyer, Tracy Lawrence, are all thrown into a dangerous situation that threatens their very lives. There are several questions to answer before they can bring all of the suspects to court or clear them. The Mexican Mafia, high state officials, and assorted criminals want to get them removed from the case, or kill them. They must navigate their way through all of the adversity to resolve the mystery.

I enjoyed this book with is twists. When you read this it shows you the underside of what we see in real life today. I have read fiction and non-fiction with these types of things going on. So this makes the book so believable. I look forward to more of this authors work.
This book flowed smoothly from beginning to end. It was extremely entertaining with a variety of subplots. The description of Albuquerque is detailed and accurate. The characters were 3-Dimensional so the reader related to them. I did finish with disrespect for lawyers as a whole. A tremendous compliment to the author is that I will read it again. I am looking forward to his next book.
The Psychopathic Judge.
This mystery moves quickly, capturing and retaining your interest. The underlying premises of the book go beyond the basic murder mystery and are thought provoking, leaving you with consideration of the story and its intriquing characters long after you complete the book.
As an extra benefit, the author shares his love of the city of Albuquerque and New Mexico, providing insight into the culture and the geography of this unique area and pulling you into this environment.
Additional stories surrounding these characters and this location would be an enjoyable and interesting read.
The book, The Psychopathic Judge delves into the corruption, sexual deviance, power and money involved in what could be any state in the union. What controls the judicial system? What controls the people involved? Of course this is fiction, but I think this book raises questions about our society, our government, and how we got leaders and decisionmakers that think only in terms of themselves and their pleasures.
The plot and the mystery are well crafted and there is not a boring page in the entire book. The protagonist and surrounding players are believable and the depth of each character fits the story and adds to it. The story itself is very entertaining and it was hard to put down. I would like to read more of this author's work and look forward to future works by him.
Don't read this book unless you intend to read the second one. At least I hope there's a follow up to The Psychopathic Judge, because Gares can create interesting characters and drop them into a nicely complicated plot. The mystery is easy reading, but has a slightly rough quality to it. Some descriptions and insights are satisfying, while others don't fully connect; some sections of dialogue grab your attention while others just get the job done; some plot details are ingenious while a few stretch credibility. It would be a pity, though, if Bob, the Albuquerque cop, and Frank, his clinical psychologist friend, didn't get another case to crack. Glen Gares may be the next Tony Hillerman in the making.
